Re: vulgar tat

Boldly proclaime your standing in Christ Jesus. Tell them NO, but also tell them why you say NO. When I was tattooing I did this, but doing so can be touchy. It's going to be hard to explain to an obvious nonbeliever why you will not do this. The word of God say's that one who is not of Christ will not understand the ways of Christ. People are going to get mad, throw tantrams, and be hot about it, but, you will be standing firm in your faith, proclaiming the name of Jesus. Planting seeds if you will. Some will see, understand, and respect you more for it, and it may even lead just one to Christ. If we do not stand and proclaime, we are in sin, and we deny Him. No matter what decision is made, just know that God already has it planned that He will receive the glory for this no matter the out come. pray about it, as I will pray for you.

Oh another thing, you could also get rid of that trash Paul Booth puts out, it does make for a better atmosphere, just my dumb oppenion though.......

Re: vulgar tat

I am just embarking on a tat career and and have talked about the same thing with my wife. The only thing I would beware of is not coming off as judgmental. This is just me, but I'd tell the one guy that the best place to get a Booth piece is from Paul himself. And as for the hand thing, I would simply say it is your policy not to put profanity on anyone, period. If he wants it that bad, there's plenty of tat salesmen, as opposed to artists, down the road willing to do it. That's my $0.02...peace.

Paul Booth's stuff is a horror genre not unlike the horror of Stephen King, etc.; If you're going to say that "horror" as a category of fiction or art is satanic, then what about science fiction, comedy, fantasy, romance, etc? As far as tattoos on the hands, the exfoliation of skin cells, movement of the tissue that will blur the work, and other issues are enough reason on their own not to work on hands or feet.

Nobody should have to do work that they're uncomfortable with, though - just do like every other tattooist does with inquiries they're not interested in: Quote high. It works every time, and you don't have to come off as some kind of "holier than thou" jerk.

Lets be careful what we say about other peoples art folks. Roscoe I agree with you that Paul Booths art is a common thing, and I also agree with many others that Paul Booth is an awesome artist he is a great tattooer in black and gray. I may not agree with his subject matter all the time however I have the opposite on my arm an angel killing a demon. My concern is that we dont make negative comments about others or their art work here on this board.

Re: vulgar tat

My mentor works from a shop built off his garage. Since it is partly his home, he works by appointment only and kind of interviews people on the phone before he ever even meets them. Through this process I can tell he's feeling them out as for maturity, reason for getting a tat, etc. So I would say YES, talk to them. This is a very personal art form that we are contributing to. I know as I learn and grow and do more work I don't want anything of mine walking around that I would not be proud of, content and quality. Counseling seems to go hand in hand with this art, good advice should lead to good decisions.

All I can say about that is let the Spirit lead you some would be offended and leave if you even thought about asking them questions or saying that someday you might regret it. I dont think in my mind anyway that a shop should be doing that, if they are adults then they can make thir own minds up. And in NO way would you be responsible for doing a tattoo not matter what it was on someone else you are not their keeper. But if they are friendly toward you and you have a starting of a relationship with them and the Spirit says go for it. Then by all means do it. Personally I wouldnt listen to it if someone tried to talk me out of something unless I knew them very well and knew where they were coming from first.

Re: vulgar tat

I have a tatto of a design from coop. It's on my right arm. It is the one where the devil girl is leaning on the tire. she is naked but nothing is showing. We are getting ready to turn it into a chopper were the rear tire is what she will be leaning on. I really like his work even though it is questonable. The reason I got it was it looks really good with my hot rod flames. I won't get anything that I can't show my 2 daughters. As for the tat on the hand I wouldnt do anything that would make me feel uncomfortable there is a reason you feel that way. I may be god saying it's not a good idea and you should listen to him.

just overhearing what pastorfreak said about paul booth being one of the black and grey greats of our time, albeit his fairly dark approach to his art. my goal in the future, and i am planning on this...(when i start making a little more bling tattooing, mind you)is to meet up with him and bob tyrell to collaborate on a backpiece of the battle between good and evil (an angel/demon war scene). knowing pretty well how paul can capture the essence on the dark side, i'm hoping bob can do just as well on the other. i feel that God has a purpose for guys like Paul Booth, whether he'll admit it or not. in time, in time...
