Re: Pierced/tatted moms

I have one did you check with the State laws before doing thier piercing? Here in Michigan 16 and under it can be child abuse if you pierce or tattoo them. ANd 16 to 18 without parents consent the same thing. Be careful I dont know what State you live in but you want to make sure before you start doing things. Just some advice that could keep from some major problems.

Virginia is currently adopting regulations for the tat/piercing industry which will fall under the board of cosmetology and barbers. They have in place emergency regulations and are scheduled to have everything in place by July this year. However the pile of problems is growing. Shops right now, as a guide will not tat anyone under 18 but it is NOT a law yet. For piercings, under 16 with parental presence and consent.

Firstly I think that hygiene and parental consent are important issues.

But I think it's odd that some doctors think it's okay to give a girl an abortion without parental consent, while even with parental consent they can't get tatted or pierced. I'm not necessarily arguing against raising the lower age limit on getting tatted/pierced, but it's an anomaly to me how liberal people can argue against inking and piercing for under certain ages, yet will insist it's right that girls can get abortions without parental consent.

Even simple ear piercing is included in the parental consent rules under a certain age (I'm not arguing against it) but abortion isn't.

Anyhow, it's clear that tattooed_xian's daughters did have parental consent as well as their own!

Am I the only one who finds it a little ...um... interesting(?) that tattooed xian's mentor seems so eager to pierce minors THIS young, and on the spur of the moment?
Maybe you had to be there...

I find it interesting, as well as bothersome that you find it so neccesary to be all up in my business. First of all we had promised my girls they could get their navels done on their birthdays this year, all of which had passed. The local shop which pierced my wife and other daughters nose wanted 80 dollars for the navels which we could not afford to do for all three girls at the sane time. You're comment that "I guess you had to be there" is exactly right, and since you were not there, you have no place in judging what happened. You make it sound as though this guy is some pervert who gets off piercing little girls and I can assure you he is not. I feel honored as well as blessed to have found this guy as a teacher compared to the several total sleazeballs I encountered out there in the "shop scene". I have completely researched the guidelines for upcoming Va regulations and even if they were laws which they are not as of yet, parental consent is only required for under 16. My daughters had my consent, we were already going to pay for the piercings, and this way we got them for free, and I got to learn something in the process. I fail to see the problem here. This is exactly the kind of interaction that has caused me to leave other "Christian" communities. I have come here for support, encouragement, and to share some of my art with other christian tattoo enthusiasts. So, love God, love your neighbor, and mind your own business.

Re: Pierced/tatted moms

Piercing minors IN GENERAL has been a huge controversy within the body piercing community at large, and has been the topic of some heated debate within the APP and among other professionals. So I'm not coming out of the ozone with this.

When I hear somebody practically bragging about having 3 VERY young minors pierced on this board, it shouldn't be surprising for me to raise an eyebrow. But, hey- what you do with your family is your business.

What is done in regards to my profession - how I earn a living - IS my business. We can all express different opinions here on the discussion board- believe me, some of mine have been unpopular. So don't be mad that I expressed mine.

From my years of experience, (and with dealing with legislators who don't quite understand what we do and why) - we who take this profession seriously are VERY cautious when it comes to piercing minors, and for very good reasons. Don't interpret my concerns as an attack.

God bless you, your family, and your mentor. You are all in my prayers.

Tattooed xian, Urania235 is entitled to his opinion just as much as anyone else is including you. I dont feel this board should be a place to say things that have been said especially about you came here to get encouragment etc. I think you have recieved that but when a subject as this comes up about piercing minors there is going to be some discussion about the negative side of it, no one is trying to tell you anything but their part. No where in Scripture is there anything that says we all need to agree on everything except the finer points of the Bible and piercing isnt there so lets all understand that if someone doesnt agree with something that isnt in the Bibles main areas we can agree to disagree, If someone wants to leave this board because everyone doesnt agree with them that is probably a good idea since no one is going to agree with everyone all the time. If you feel you did the right thing and have no issues as far as God is concerned over it dont let it bother you that someone doesnt agree and just mark it as someone giving their opinion as we all know there have been amny people die for this country to have the ability to disagree and not be jailed etc for it. So lets not try to stop it on this board or anywhere else please. I have a great friend over in Iraq right now who is putting his life on the line for us to be able to have freedoms and freedom is not free!!!

Lets love one another as Jesus told us and if someone doesnt agree with us it is no reason to get upset.

Agreed...Freak and Roscoe, I truly appreciate and understand your concerns. As it is in Va right now, nothing illegal was done, however as I've read today each state is very different with some still outlawing the whole practice. As a newbie to all of this, the last thing I want to do is go about anything wrecklessly. Would I pierce someone elses daughter who was 13? No, I would not. This was a very personal, unique, and intimate time with my family. I'm glad I got to do it. You can be sure, their friends are asking, "Will he do mine?" and I've instructed them all to say NO!! Much of my consent was also based on what they wanted. I would not have done their tongues, or moreso genitalia. If they want, they can do that when they are over 18. I look at a navel piercing like an earlobe, cosmeticly speaking, I know it's a more technical procedure. But anyway, I apologize for firing back so fiercely. I appreciate the prayers as I truly desire this to be a career. And this is all part of the PR.
Peace
Jon

Hi. Is your mom these days still of the same opinion about not getting inked?

Hey everyone! I've posted here before that I've been talking to my mother about piercings and tattoos. She had been contemplating getting one or the other for a while and I simply told her it was between herself and God. I told her she should pray about it. She did and says God told her that it wasn't for her to get anything done. I'm glad that she took the time to pray on it and not just go on an impulse and regret it later. Well, it's not what I would have thought the outcome would have been but I'm definately ok with it.
