jayme. you're walkin a fine line with making decisions about whats sin or not based around feelings. The Bible is our only standard to faith and conduct. Our feelings are inherently sinful. I mean, there are people that think that God told them to kill people according to their feelings.

Theres plenty of scriptural evidence that we as beleivers are free to get tattooed.

Be careful man.

Re: Are tattoos a sin?

If there was a direct line in scripture (New Testament) about getting tattooed, then there would be a direct and easy answer to the question to "Are tattoos a sin?". [sign in to see URL] is not.

There is only ONE passage in the entire Bible that deals directly with tattoos and we all know it is the passage in Lev. 19:28.

So what does that mean? I believe it means we are free to get tattooed. Thats what I believe and not JUST because its what I feel but because its the truth.

Does that mean everyone is free to get tattooed? YES. Does that mean everyone can get tattooed? I believe the answer is no.

I want to pose a question and I want people to post here what they think....

lets dig into this and see where it goes.

I am going to post this question in THE WORD section....

lets get down to it...

I understand where you may be coming from with this one but, and this is just my own personal experience with God and the Holy [sign in to see URL] the Bible is VERY specific when it talks about following the leading of the Holy Spirit and I've known no other way of doing that other then how I FEEL I'm being led. I've never received a hand written letter (except for the Bible of course) telling me what I should and should not do...

To jump from whether or not someone should get a tattoo and compare that to someone killing another person is a rather desperate comparison to draw in order to prove a point. The truth is, the amazing thing about the old law is that it proved how hopeless our state WAS because NO ONE could ever possibly adhere to [sign in to see URL] at the Pharasees. But with Jesus came the fulfillment of the law and prophecies and created a NEW [sign in to see URL] law of freedom and abundant LIFE! Romans states that we each will have to give our OWN account to God and that we should trust in the leading of God's Holy Spirit in order to know what is a sin and what is not. Regardless of what anyone [sign in to see URL] follow the SPIRIT to let me know what is right and [sign in to see URL] opinions of mankind.

Our God is faithful and will answer us when we [sign in to see URL] that much I know is for CERTAIN emoticon
All of this is meant in [sign in to see URL] [sign in to see URL] just figured I'd give my two cents worth on this one emoticon

Much Love and Respect to each one of you

I agree with you completely man. on every point. but I think that its important to make the destinction between simple feelings and the leading of the spirit. because you have to learn to hear the spirits voice. Its also a good Idea to always get a second or third opinion from beleivers around you

Blessings man, u too jayme

Re: Are tattoos a sin?

I think the point Jayme is making is that ultimately, we need to pray about it. Just like any area of our lives, Christians pray for guidance. Getting a tattoo is no different. I think our motivations and reasons for doing things, and by that I mean anything, whether it's getting a tattoo, loaning someone money, or travelling the earth, determine whether it's sinful or not. If you're getting tattooed, or branded, or pierced, to glorify satan or to pick up on some underaged girl or something, then it could probably be considered sinful. I don't believe the act of tattoing in itself is a sin. Just my opinion, for what it's worth. On the contrary, I have several tattoos that glorify God (Saving Grace with sacred heart on my chest; Jesus Christ with "Salvation" on my ribs), that have afforded me an opportunity to talk with people about Jesus who, let's face it, probably wouldn't be talking about Jesus in a tattoo shop. Scripture (especially old testament law) can (and often is) taken out of [sign in to see URL] can be vague and interpreted many ways, and wasn't tailored to the world we live in, which is why wack-o's waving "God Hates Fags" signs justify their hatred. I've always felt that the bible is divinely inspired, but ultimately written by fallen men, and not perfect. This is strongly disagreed with by a lot of people, but this is something I have prayed very hard about, and the conclusion I've come to. It's also important to remember that Jesus came to earth and died for our sins. What we're talking about here is old testament law. My Lord and Savior knows what my motivations are, and where my heart is when I get tattooed. Sometimes I get tattoos that are silly and don't have any significant [sign in to see URL] something I got while visiting friends in Portland or something. But if I felt like the design or situation was something that was against God or contrary to my beliefs, I wouldn't get it. Again, if I give someone money, or materials, or my time, or whatever, and I'm expecting something selfish in return, it seems sinful to me. This is the same (for [sign in to see URL] my humble opinion) in tattooing.

Hasn't Dennis Dwyer covered this topic extensively over the years?

Re: Are tattoos a sin?

[sign in to see URL] been waiting to see you around here.

Tattooing is not as [sign in to see URL] Paul says in Romans 14:14 "I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean."

THis passage clearly states the pictures and backs up what Jak is saying.

If you feel something is wrong for you, then for you it is wrong. Yet that doesnt mean it is clearly wrong for someoen else. God lets each man stand alone and judges each man alone. Each man has a different journey and a different purpose in Gods plan. Therefor God judges each man where they are, according to his will for THAT MAN or WOMAN.

Read through [sign in to see URL] in 5 and take it to 14. The picture is clearly layed out.

Thanks [sign in to see URL] pray and hope to see you throwing your heart out there more on [sign in to see URL] are needed!!

By the way [sign in to see URL] is one of the tattoo artists I am working to get involved with the CTA.

thanks for stepping up bro.

Re: Are tattoos a sin?

I'm new here, thank you for this thread.

My question is a little complicated as it deals with both the Old and New Testament.

I saw something the other day and I have an idea of the tattoo I would love to get, but, I don't know if it's something appropriate. Any and all opinions are welcomed and so appreciated.

I was raised Jewish, but after the age of 11 I didn't practice. I accepted Jesus as my savior in VBS at the age 11. That was not a popular decision with my parents. My parents haven't practiced in years, probably since Greg and I got married. When I married Greg I started to go to church with him as a Methodist. We've been married for 23 years now. I know that even though I was baptized as an adult, I'm still considered Jewish as my mom is Jewish.

The tattoo I'm thinking of getting is a Star of David and a cross next to each other. I've thought about getting a heart or some barbs in there somehow. I think maybe a heart made of barbed wire.

Is that Sacreligious?

I would love to get this tattoo on my upper left arm, on the shoulder so everyone can see it and ask why I have it. I'm working my way back to God, I think that this will help me in my journey. It's a long story, but I haven't been to church in a few years, even though I still believe in God.

I know that the Old Testament says that you shouldn't have tattoos, but, since I have three already, is it still a sin?

I've prayed about this for a while, years actually. I prayed about all my tattoos before I got them.

Thank you for reading this and for any opinions and feedback you can give me.

Re: Are tattoos a sin?

as I [sign in to see URL] can tell you whether you getting a tattoo is a sin or not. It is something that must be asked and judged between God and yourself.

Gods spirit became our guide once we become saved. Read through Romans 5-9 and then 1 corinthians5-9 and finish it off with galatians 3-6.

Paul teaches everything you need to know about Law-vs-grace in these writings.

Then once you have that fully [sign in to see URL] the last thing to read it Romans 14.

If you do [sign in to see URL] will give you your answer and it will come from [sign in to see URL] from someone with a opinion of Gods will for your life and your body.

Many blessings...
