i dont think tatoos are sins unless you get something sinful
but i also think the true answer will come by praying and asking god what to do

Hi. Today a friend sent me a link to a Baptist site where they seem to be trying to have a discussion about this subject. I haven't posted a reply yet but I am thinking about it. On eguy seems to be really cool. Others aren't.

in my opinion, tattoos are not sinful, and the Lord likes it when we get tattooed in respect and honour to Him. it does state in Leviticus about tainting ones' body, but Jesus said that all of those old traditions are now gone by Jesus redeeming our natural sin through His death, "It is now finished."

I also feel that our bodies are temples and we should decorate them according to how we feel fit.

I'm new here, thank you for this thread.

My question is a little complicated as it deals with both the Old and New Testament.

I saw something the other day and I have an idea of the tattoo I would love to get, but, I don't know if it's something appropriate. Any and all opinions are welcomed and so appreciated.

I was raised Jewish, but after the age of 11 I didn't practice. I accepted Jesus as my savior in VBS at the age 11. That was not a popular decision with my parents. My parents haven't practiced in years, probably since Greg and I got married. When I married Greg I started to go to church with him as a Methodist. We've been married for 23 years now. I know that even though I was baptized as an adult, I'm still considered Jewish as my mom is Jewish.

The tattoo I'm thinking of getting is a Star of David and a cross next to each other. I've thought about getting a heart or some barbs in there somehow. I think maybe a heart made of barbed wire.

Is that Sacreligious?

I would love to get this tattoo on my upper left arm, on the shoulder so everyone can see it and ask why I have it. I'm working my way back to God, I think that this will help me in my journey. It's a long story, but I haven't been to church in a few years, even though I still believe in God.

I know that the Old Testament says that you shouldn't have tattoos, but, since I have three already, is it still a sin?

I've prayed about this for a while, years actually. I prayed about all my tattoos before I got them.

Thank you for reading this and for any opinions and feedback you can give me.

i sure think that is sacreligious due to the fact that Jews are the eternal enemy of those of Adam and Christians in general.

you dont need to go to Church to worship. you can have church anywhere with friends in the interest of Worshipping in the name of Yhvh.

that is good though that you were able to witness and get away from that serpant like Mamzur faith and to the light.

Re: Are tattoos a sin?

I love this topic. I'm new to the board here too.

Lev 19:28 is the only direct ref in the bible i am aware of.

If tattoing is a sin based on that passage so is eating meat, trimming a beard or cutting your hair (see lev 19:26-27).

"Experts" in bible theology seem to agree marking the body with cuts and tattoos was done as ritual for the dead and the context of Lev 19:28 is basically saying "dont do that ritual".

Are you getting tattooed as part of a ritual to save the souls of the dead or something? I supposed getting an "in loving memory of" tattoo rides that line. haha.

To that point, everything we do should be glorifying to God shouldn't it? So here is my opinon. If you are going to get tattooed then get a godly tattoo!

Let's talk about "feelings". I saw someone comment. Keep in mind I am a part time but licensed tattooist in California. I dont think we should do anything based on how we "feel" generally speaking.

I believe that is what gets most of us in trouble! I dont "feel" like going to church today, I "feel" like getting drunk, I "feel" like i need sex, etc. etc.

I believe we should do what is right even if we dont "feel" like it.

But i do believe God lives in us and gives us a sense of "conviction" or what i call moral-guilt. I suppose that is a feeling in and of itself. When it comes to spirtual matters, that is the only "feeling" I try to listen too because I believe that is the holy spirit guiding me.

The thought of tattooing a demon on someone gives me conviciton, the thought of tattooing a skull, a rose, a sunset, etc does not. The thought of tattooing 666 on someone makes me feel sick, the thought of tattooing scripture makes me feel somewhere between ok and proud.

I have prayed before drawing a tattoo and before giving a tattoo. Believe it or not it has impacted the outcome - positively!

Ok, so back to "is it a sin?". I read someone's thoughts about how "it depends on what you get".

I agree with that.

As a witness for Christ, getting a tattoo of a big boobied latina on my forearm is probably a poor reflection of Christ.

I think you know that as well right?

If you know God probably wouldn't approve of a particular image and you get the tattoo any way, wouldn't that be a sin?

A kid hits baseball through a window on accident. Is it a sin? Probably not. Same kid throws the same baseball through the same window on purpose. Is it a sin? probably.

Is there scripture to back this up?

Scripture that talks about relfecting God? That talks about intent? Modivation? etc? Probably. Maybe someone can share.

Re: Are tattoos a sin?

I used to think that tattoos were a sin only because of my mother, I'm 34 years old and have always wanted one... I finally got one this past September on my left ankle of the fish with Hope written in it and Hebrews 11:1 underneath. I prayed long and hard about having it done. God kept taking me to that passage in the bible He gave me peace about getting a tattoo. My tattoo symbolizes: my hope is in the lord. It also has helped me wittiness to people about the lord. I am thinking of having another one done on my back of an angel holding a teddy bear in one arm and a rose in the [sign in to see URL] represents my children and the scripture Psalms 127:3 (children are a gift of the Lord)I feel now that if your tattoo is a message of God it's ok.

Re: Are tattoos a sin?

I'm not sure that it's a sin, but my opinion is I don't think it glorifies god. 1 Chorinthians Chapter 6 verse 19. Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit that is within you? If you have accepted Christ as your savior, does it bring God glory to put a tatoo on your body? Don't you think if he wanted you to have markings on your body he would have created you that way? Tattoos are a thing of the world. You can argue that your tattoo is a testimony of your salvation, but I believe glory to god could be found in verbally sharing your testimony and love for the lord simply by speaking to folks rather than through "artwork". Everyone has to find their own personal conviction by reading the scriptures and praying on it. The bible says "Judge not lest ye be not judged", however, those who are saved will be judged one day when they stand before the Lord and they will have to answer to the Lord as to why they tattoed their body he has given them. An interesting question that can and will be debated until the rapture. As Christians, we are to strive to be like Christ. We are human, we will never be perfect for we are born sinners and although we are saved, can and will continue to committ sin no matter how hard we try. We can covet, lose our temper, pass judgment but when we ask the lord to forgive us and we are sincere about it, he has promised to forgive us and cast our sins away, never to be mentioned again. The bible says we were created in his likeness and we are born without tattoos so I'm pretty sure god doesn't or wouldn't have a [sign in to see URL] you think Jesus would have gotten a tattoo when he was on earth? His name, a angel, what Heaven looks like? I personnally don't believe he would have as I don't feel there can be any glory to God through marking up your body with tattos. But, you and you alone must make the choice. To tattoo or not to tattoo, only you will have to answer to God.
