Christ the person, Christ the Savior...the reason Christ is the standard is because we "abide IN Him" not "Like Hime". I believe we are NOT to judge one another...thats what scripture says and says it clearly. Holding one another accountable can only be done with those who have given us permission to do so. If you read the Word..thats what it says. I am up to any other persons point of view...lets hear em...lets SHARE. nondisclosed_email@example.com (warchild33)Mon, 22 Oct 2007 07:25:57 +0000 Re: Abide in love......Sept 15th 07https://bchristiantattooassociation.runboard.com/p167424,from=rss#post167424https://bchristiantattooassociation.runboard.com/p167424,from=rss#post167424I believe judgement in the aspect that you reference is akin to "discern and/or rightly seeing"....judge in the regard that it is referred to in Romans 14 is more akin to "accuse/discriminate/admonish"....that's just my understanding of the two different scriptures.... We have a saying in SC, "you shucked the corn." but a quick question... are you saying that we shouldn't judge our brothers? Because the Bible tells us to judge with a righteous judgement, judge as you will be judged. Don't judge in spite but judge out of love, if i'm doing something stupid i pray to God that one of my friends will make that judgement and tell me. The Bible tells us that "wounds from a friend can be trusted, but kisses of the enemy are deceiving." The world will tell you that the things you do are ok, and their is nothing wrong with what you are doing, but your real friends will tell you you're being an idiot.  Lastly i really enjoyed it and thought it was easy reading, it's a real gift from God to break down the scripture and make it relateable to people. So many people think those verses are saying that we are to offend no one...but I think we all know that's impossible. You cannot please all people all of the time...but you can please one God all of the time, or at least you should strive to do so =) Romans 14 is one of my favorite chapters in all of the bible because it gives us great tangible examples of what Freedom in Christ actually looks like...if we'd only have the faith to follow the leading of the Spirit in our individual lives. Thanks for taking the time to break it down for us! YOU ROCK! ~EMnondisclosed_email@example.com (EME015)Mon, 17 Sep 2007 16:03:03 +0000 Abide in love......Sept 15th 07https://bchristiantattooassociation.runboard.com/p167382,from=rss#post167382https://bchristiantattooassociation.runboard.com/p167382,from=rss#post167382Abide in love......Romans 14. Lets look at what this says and set up the scene for Pauls writings in the book of Romans. Here Paul was writing to the Church, which consisted of both Gentile and Jews. The Church in Rome had began to fight about who was right and who was wrong. Some believed that they could eat anything, while others believed they could eat only vegetables. Still others believed that every day was holy and some beleived that on one day was "the" holy day. So they were arguing and not getting along. Basically...each one believed they were right and thought the other was wrong. Paul wrote to calm them and to share with them that NEITHER of them were wrong...just different. That to truly walk in Love according to how God was leading each of them was the key. Which, is the call of ALL Christians. Romans 14 "1 Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. 2 For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables." THE key here is that Paul is stating that those who feel completely free, that no things are unlawful for them in themselves...are truly strong in their faith and living within the freedom Christ has secured for them. While yet others, who still believe their are conditions on Gods approval or love are the "weaker" believer. THis is a key note here....Paul is NOT saying we can do whatever we want. What he IS saying, is that there is no "law" for us to abide in....other than the law of Love. Romans 14 "3 Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. 4 Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand." Here Paul is clearly stating the condition of Christians...even modern day Christian today. THose who are completely free and strong in their Faith that Christ has justified them (freed them from living according to the law), will begin to despise the "weaker" christians because they are not truly living as free men and women. THen Paul states that the weaker brothers and sisters will begin to "judge" the free Christians because they do not adhere to the letter of the law. He is stating the exact situation that is going on in Chrisianity today. Judgement and more judgement. Romans 14 "5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord;[a] and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.[c] 11 For it is written:       “ As I live, says the LORD,       Every knee shall bow to Me,       And every tongue shall confess to God.”[d] 12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way." Here Paul clearly states that we ALL have differences and are at different places in the Christian walk...yet the goal is for us all to walk in COMPLETE and MATURE Faith....free in Christ. He then states that we should not put a "cause to fall" in anyones way by asking them or demanding that they walk the way "WE" think they should walk. THat we must ALL walk according to how we feel is right for us and how Gods Holy Spirit leads us. Romans 14 "14 I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that there is nothing unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean." Meaning....if YOU feel something is wrong for you...then for YOU it is wrong. THis doesnt give ANYONE the right to stand in Judgement of anothers walk with God. WE MUST ALL WALK AS WE ARE CALLED. Romans 14 "15 Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died." Does this statement mean we are not to do anything others dont approve of? NO....NO...NO. What it says is if my brother and I do not agree with one another over our food and how we should eat it....we should not set to arguing over our food and cause grief with one another over what we do or dont eat. We should walk in love and let one another eat as they feel free to do so according to their Faith! Romans 14 "16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 For he who serves Christ in these things[e]is acceptable to God and approved by men." What Paul is saying here is...if you feel it is good for you to eat whatever you want..do NOT let anyone tell you it is evil. It is for GOD to judge, for by Him we stand or fall. Romans 14 "19 Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. 20 Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. 21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.[f]" What Paul is saying here is we must set ourselves to love one another. Christ's payment on the cross made everything clean but if we do eat and argue about it or jusge one another or make it an issue not of love....then we are eating "with offense". Romans 14  22 Do you have faith?[g] Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. Our judgements on other people, are accounted to us as well. Christ said by what measure we judge other people...we will be judged.(Matthew 7:1-2). So we can condemn ourselves by what we judge in other people. If we hold others to the letter of the law, that same letter will be held against us. Jesus said "What you bind on earth, will be bound in heaven." He called this the "keys to heaven" (Matthew 16:19). Romans 14 23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.[h] Meaning....whatever we do in this life as Christians, we must do from faith. If we get tattooed we must do so from Faith. If we cannot do what we do becasue we feel it is okay for us....they it is wrong. THis applies to anything.... We must ALL live according to how we feel called by God through His Holy Spirit to live. We cannot live as others wants us too...we are not here to please man but to please God. So in closing this writing....lets all just learn to love one another and walk together hand in hand. God is capable of leading us and capable of moving us in the direction he wants us to go according to his plan. We are free men and woman ebcause of Jesus. PRaise JESUS! Yet we still must ALL walk in love with one another....not judging and walk hand in hand as we all find our blind way through this dark world. God is in control....we must trust God and love one another. Even if we are different.... scripture says so... Matthew 22:37-39 Love you guys...
