Re: Christian singles with tattoos
im single.. male . dont have a tatoo yet but thinking of getting a nice big one on my back.. i was reading and ya i think tattoos are ok.. but becarfule not to get one just to get the church mad or somthing like that.. do it because you want to worship god... even tho most churches would frown on tattoos.. the last thing you want is to cause some sort of conflict in the church .. wether you agree with them or not they are there to help lead ppl to christ and to fellowship.. also to do gods will (wether they actualy do this is a whole nother story and also depends on the church)

Re: Christian singles with tattoos
my advice?
don't compromise on behalf of another's point of view...after all, it IS only their point of view.
I've already tattooed 6 ppl from my church. I'm glad I'm in a community that doesn't frown on my being a tattooist. If not, most of the ppl ENCOURAGE what I do. I can empathise with anybody feeling pushed away for having tattoos. That's what's wrong with christianity today. only a few remember about the 'grace' and 'love' part of it, and still a lot end up punking off the ppl that, dare I say, are probably even GODLIER than they are. If it wasn't for where I've been going, i would've thrown in the towel long ago. I'm embarrassed to identify myself with those who are just plain hot headed, belligerant, immature children - who feel they need to fill their ego by going around, belittling everybody else that doesn't have the same convictions as I/we do. And yes, it DOES rub me the wrong way...after 10 years, you start learning what to keep and what to weed out; and ESP to learn to stand up for what's in your heart, and let God use that. It's the greatest gift you could ever give Him. I figure I'm 27, I should by now start acting and thinking like an adult. So yeah. Really! That's all that God wants from you.... Is YOU. let him use that...not other ppl.
OH YEAH. btw I'm a guy too...heh...you think?

it's easy for church ppl to want to stick to traditions...that is, american church cultural traditions... i'm 27 also, and i think i'm despised more for my youth now than when i was a teenager! but God is doing a new thing, not all churchy, in those who are truly pursuing him first and foremost. and that's what i want to be a part of, not another church. and ironically, i work at a church as a sound engineer, and play a large role in making my church work...but hey, it's home, it's my family, f'd up as they may be.

Re: Christian singles with tattoos
Interesting reading your ruminations about "church culture." For me there was a huge enough "culture clash" that I dropped out completely, and am now more at peace as a "lone wolf."
Of course, I am chastised, judged or otherwise not taken seriously by church-going Christians I communicate with - because they think I've amputated myself from the "Body of Christ." Even Christian radicals have this social notion of communally shared lifestyle that grates against my sense of "the Truth setting me FREE."
The thing is, the body has parts such as the hair, which is rooted strongly enough that the entire body could hang from it, but it's only rooted at the base, and otherwise is pretty much "flowing in the wind."
So maybe I'm the Hair of the church: On good days, I may fit in with "church culture" but on "bad hair days" you may wish you could cut me off. Of course, I'd grow right back.

i see it like this... as long as you are pursuing intimacy with God first and foremost, nothing else matters but that relationship. a church, and by that i mean being part of a body of believers (yes of course by being a believer makes you part of the body anyway) is only important in that its purpose is for assisting in growth and exhortation and having covenant relationships: family. if you're not getting that from a particular church, you prolly don;t need to waste your time. and at this point in time, if there is not a particular covenant community you belong in, it's really ok, so long as you truly are pursuing God first and foremost. nothing else matters, except as an act of worship and obedience to God. with that said, there's a possibility that though right now you don;t have a covenant community you belong to, it likely won't always be that way. a covenant community cound be an organized church, but it doesn;t have to be... it may simply be a loose organization of people who follow Jesus' teachings whose sole commonality other than following Jesus is that they have tattoos. i got one and can;t wait to start on my next one.

Re: Christian singles with tattoos
I saw someone had posted that (and I'm paraphrasing) "that Jesus was marked and scarred for him and he was just returning the favor". I found that remark true AND beautiful. I have over 12 tattoos, 2 scarrifications and I'm pierced. My scarrifications and three of my tattoos are faith based. Let the people look at you weird. If they don''t accept you because you are marked that is their problem. You are an amazing child of God, and He loves you tattoos and all.
